This Voice Lesson Agreement (“Agreement”) sets forth the policies for private voice lessons provided by Teresa Halsey (“Teacher”). By scheduling and accepting voice lessons, the Student, or the Student’s Parent/Guardian if the Student is under 18, agrees to the following terms.

1. Voice Lessons Private voice lessons are 45 minutes in length unless otherwise arranged. Lessons may take place at Teresa Halsey’s home studio or at another mutually agreed-upon location. Any alternate location must be arranged in advance. Lessons are scheduled individually through email, text, Acuity, or another scheduling method provided by the Teacher.

2. Lesson Fee & Payment The fee for a 45-minute private voice lesson is $85. Payment is due no later than the beginning of the scheduled lesson unless another arrangement has been made in advance. Accepted payment methods include cash, check, or another payment method agreed upon by the Teacher. 

3. Cancellations & Rescheduling Because each lesson time is reserved specifically for the Student, the following cancellation policy applies: More than 24 hours' notice: The Student may cancel or reschedule the lesson without charge. Less than 24 hours' notice: The full lesson fee is due. Missed lessons/no-shows: The full lesson fee is due. The Teacher understands that genuine emergencies occur. In cases of illness, accident, family emergency, or another exceptional circumstance, the Teacher may permit one late-cancelled lesson to be rescheduled per season (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Additional late cancellations may be charged the full lesson fee. Exceptions remain at the Teacher’s reasonable discretion.

4. Teacher Cancellations If the Teacher must cancel a lesson, the Student will not be charged. If payment has already been made, the Student may choose to have the payment credited toward a future lesson or refunded. The Teacher will make reasonable efforts to reschedule the lesson.

5. Students Under 18 For Students under the age of 18, the Student’s Parent or Legal Guardian enters into this Agreement and is responsible for payment and compliance with studio policies. Private voice lessons are generally conducted one-on-one between the Teacher and Student. A Parent/Guardian may attend or observe the lesson if desired.

6. Professional Boundaries & Vocal Instruction Voice instruction may include demonstrations of posture, breathing, alignment, resonance, articulation, and other aspects of vocal technique. At times, physical guidance may be helpful for demonstrating posture, breathing, or muscular coordination. The Teacher will ask permission before using hands-on instruction, and the Student may decline physical contact at any time. Students are encouraged to communicate openly about their comfort and needs during lessons.

7. Recording & Teaching Materials Lessons may occasionally be audio or video recorded for instructional, pedagogical, or safety purposes. Any recording intended for advertising, social media, the Teacher's website, or other public promotional use will require separate permission from the Student or, for a minor Student, the Student’s Parent/Guardian. Teaching exercises, handouts, recordings, and other original materials created by the Teacher are intended for the Student's personal educational use and may not be sold, published, distributed, or used commercially without permission. Students are responsible for obtaining legally authorized copies of copyrighted sheet music when required.

8. Independent Private Instruction Voice lessons with Teresa Halsey are provided independently and are not offered on behalf of any school, parish, employer, educational institution, performance organization, or other program with which the Teacher may be affiliated. Participation in private voice lessons has no bearing on a Student's academic standing, grades, extracurricular participation, auditions, casting, ensemble placement, or other opportunities within any institution or organization.

9. Health & Safety Singing is a physical activity. Students should communicate any discomfort, vocal fatigue, illness, or other concern that may affect their ability to participate safely in a lesson. The Teacher provides vocal instruction and does not provide medical diagnosis or treatment. Students experiencing persistent pain, vocal difficulty, or other medical concerns should consult an appropriate licensed healthcare professional. To the extent permitted by California law, the Student/Parent assumes the ordinary risks associated with participation in private voice instruction. Nothing in this Agreement is intended to waive any right or liability that cannot legally be waived under California law.

10. Ending Lessons Either the Student or Teacher may discontinue the teaching relationship at any time. Any outstanding lesson fees or cancellation fees incurred before termination remain due. The Teacher reserves the right to discontinue lessons when necessary because of repeated nonpayment, repeated missed lessons, inappropriate conduct, violation of studio policies, or another circumstance that makes continuation of the teaching relationship impractical.

11. Governing Law This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California. If a provision of this Agreement is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect to the extent permitted by law. This Agreement and the studio policies contained within it constitute the understanding between the Teacher and Student/Parent concerning private voice lessons.

12. Acceptance By scheduling a voice lesson, the Student or Parent/Guardian acknowledges receiving access to these policies. When booking a lesson electronically, the Student or Parent/Guardian will be asked to affirm:
